Uniforms and Scout Books:

One of the fun things about scouting is wearing a uniform.  The Scouting uniform shows the boys progress through scouting, and should be a source of pride for the scout.  Listed below are the basics that you will need to outfit your scout.

Consider buying your sons handbook during the summer before the school year starts.  Many of the accomplishments for advancement are best done in the summer time, when the weather is good, school is out, and before the Fall onset of soccer and other activities.

Camping Gear:

Pack 5 camping trips are “car camping.”  We won’t be backpacking into the wilderness (that's for boy scouts), and we won’t be camping for more than one night at a time.

The Pack (including Den Leaders) will provide, so you do not have to bring:

Ø      Paper plates

Ø      Forks, spoons

Ø      Dinner & breakfast

Ø      Drinks (soda, hot chocolate, milk)

Ø      Dishwashing soap

Ø      Sponges, etc.

If you have any of the following, you may want to bring along. If you don't already own it, please don't buy it unless you also plan to use it for yourself sometime in the future:

Ø      Large container of water

Ø      Camp stove (propane is recommended, as many campgrounds do not allow kerosene) or barbeque

Ø      Fuel for the above

Ø      Cooking utensils

Ø      Paper towels

Ø      Hatchet, if you have one

Ø      Cooler

Ø      Wood saw/axe

Ø      Length of cord or rope (always helpful while camping)

Ø      First aid kit (pack leader will have one, but the more the better)

The necessaries. These are what you need to maintain a minimum comfort level:

Ø      Tent

Ø      Ground Cloth (especially if tent does not have bottom)

Ø      Sleeping Bag

Ø      Foam pad or air-mattress (with foot pump)

Ø      Toilet paper

Ø      Flashlight

Ø      Rain gear (poncho is best)

Ø      Pocket knife

Ø      Warm clothing

Ø      Insect repellant

Ø      Matches and fire starter (e.g. newspaper)

Ø      If your boy has a favorite blanket or stuffed animal, he (and you) will sleep much better if you bring it

Ø      Toiletries: toothbrush & paste, hand soap, small towel

Ø      Warm jacket, hat and gloves in case of cool weather

Ø      A trash bag.  We want to leave the campgrounds as good as or better than we found them.

Ø      Snacks

These items are optional:

Ø      Pillow(s) or extra blanket

Ø      Change of clothing

Ø      Extra socks

Ø      Waterproof hiking boots

Ø      Canteen

Ø      Tarp (to cover the eating area in case of wet weather)

Ø      Cooking equipment to supplement what your den may have
