Den leaders,
Attached is a memo from the Westchester-Putnam Scout council indicating that one
type of popcorn we sold last Fall is being voluntarily recalled due to the
recent salmonella scare involving peanuts.
The only product affected by the recall is 9.5 oz. Trail’s End® Caramel Corn
with Peanuts, with code date markings (on the foil bag) of: “102861 109 JAN 19
08” through “102861 297 JUL 23 09”. The product was listed for $9 on the order
form (all the way to the right).
The attached letter is from the company that produced the popcorn, and outlines
that they:
∙ Received no complaints or reports of any illness related to this product.
∙ Conducted tests that determined there was no salmonella.
∙ Hired a national expert to review the manufacturing process. The expert
concluded that he was “completely confident that no salmonella organisms would
survive the manufacturing heat process.”
Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, the producer decided to recall the
product.
Based on the memo from the council, the Pack 5 leadership is asking the den
leaders to call the customers who have ordered the above mentioned product and
send them the attached memo. The attached letter outlines what the customers
need to do.
For those of you who provided copies of order forms to me in the Fall, I will be
sending copies of these to you later today. If you didn't provide forms to me
and don't know who ordered this specific type of popcorn because you no longer
have the forms, please forward this email on to each person in your den.
I apologize for the inconvenience this recall may cause.
